[Another day, another witch.

It's the same old routine. She defeats a witch, knowing it will be replaced by another soon enough. It's as satisfying as it is unpleasant - there will always be more work to be done, more rewards to be seized. More ways to survive.

Still, she can't deny being a tiny bit pleased on this day. This one hadn't even been a challenge. Little more than a free meal, really, and in such a convenient location to boot. It had shown itself in a quiet part of town. It wasn't completely dead yet, but several of the shops had closed in recent years, and traffic had grown light. It hadn't proven hard to pop in and out of sight unnoticed.

It's out of the way enough that doesn't even feel the need to rush to pack up and resume normalcy. She takes a moment to stretch out, putting her hand over her mouth and exhaling a soft yawn before claiming her reward - the Grief Seed that the witch had left behind. She leans over, plucking it off the ground before rolling it between her fingers.]

[Corrin first heard of the existence of Puella Magi on one of the core worlds. It had been mentioned in an offhand sort of way, but it had immediately piqued his interest. The person in question hadn’t known much about them other than that it seemed they could only be found on one world--a fringe world that has very little contact with the rest of the galaxy--and that as a group they’re highly secretive. He asked them if they knew where he could find out more, perhaps where they’d heard the name in the first place, or any books they knew of that covered the topic, but all he got from them was that one name and the name of the world itself.

Through some digging of his own Corrin had at least been able to confirm that the source was accurate, that these girls did actually exist, but information other than that was painfully limited. If he wanted more information he’d have to get it himself.

It took a bit of needling to get there--Earth isn’t often visited, it’s far from all the major core worlds and getting into the system can be tricky--but he managed it in the end. At the very least he knows that it’s not an inherently magical world and in some respects that should make things easier, but he really had no idea where to start. If they’re secretive what would be the best way to ask about them? Should he ask about them? Would there be books about it? Would there be some way to research their magic before setting out to find someone who uses it?

Thankfully for him he doesn’t have to wonder long. After one very unsuccessful trip to the library Corrin felt something. It’s very strong magic, but the feeling is different. Strange in a way he can’t quite place. It doesn’t feel like any of the magic he’s used to--it doesn’t feel like someone is accessing the Weave, it doesn’t feel like druidcraft, it’s something new. The source is easy to track and he hurries down the street, slipping easily between people on the sidewalk as he makes his way to a much quieter part of town.

But no sooner than he turns the corner the feeling simply vanishes and all he sees is a teenage girl--likely somewhere around his own age give or take a year or so. His brow furrows tightly and he casts a quick spell to see if any trace of what he’d felt remained and the glow of magic shows itself in the small object in the girl’s hand and the girl herself. He can’t feel any magic coming off of her or the gem, but now he can certainly see it.

His face breaks out into a smile as he rushes to greet her, eager to meet a user of this new exciting form of magic.]

Oh! I really didn’t think I’d be able to find someone so easily! You can use magic, right? Did you do something to get rid of whatever was here before? I felt it as soon as I got out of the library, but it was like nothing I’d ever felt before! Definitely something strong. Was it an enchantment? I mean, I guess there’s a lot of things it could have been, but it’s hard to know for sure if you’ve already dispelled it.

[Kyoko's head jerks up before the sound of approaching footsteps even reaches her ears as her senses alert her to the presence of another magic user. Her head snaps in the direction of the source, fingers of her free hand curling loosely, as though to grasp something.

Her fingers relax as the barrage of questions begins. Her eyebrows knit in confusion as her gaze finds the source as she tries to puzzle out its origin. Too articulate to be a child, far too small to be an adult - surely even a midget would be able to reach her chest. Besides, even catching only a handful of words out of what he said was enough to can suss out that this stranger was able to both pinpoint the source of magic so quickly.

Not somebody likely to dismiss her as a cosplayer or a LARPer, either. She heaves out a sigh and runs her hand through her hair, coming around to the only answer that's left - she's heard the stories, and it's not like she's never run into aliens before. Strange though it seemed, Kyuubey and his ilk were really just freaks from beyond the stars.

It's a little unsettling to run into another one, but fortunately, his noisy greeting makes it easy to mask her feelings with annoyance. It doesn't even take much effort.]

Haahh, and here I thought was that it was just Earth where people are raised without manners... Tch, should've known better.

[Corrin at least isn't so tone-deaf that he can't see or hear the annoyance in her voice and he has the decency to look shame-faced for a moment. His smile falters and he purses his lips, mentally (and a little bit physically too if the slight wince is anything to go by) recoiling from those words and quickly trying to reassess the situation.]

Oh...oh gosh, I'm, um, I'm sorry! You're right, that...that wasn't really polite. I mean, you don't have any idea who I am and I just...sorry!

[He takes a breath and another few steps forward, extending his hand out to her for a handshake with a bright smile now firmly on his face, replacing the look of uncertainty that had been there before.]

My name's Corrin! Corrin Wiseacre. It's, um...it's nice to meet you!

[Clearly it's the fact that he didn't introduce himself that's the problem here, right?]

That's not...

[She huffs out another breath and rubs the back of her neck, but stops herself short with the shake of the head. It isn't what she was looking for, but it's difficult to stay too mad in the face of such an earnest attempt, and his small stature does nothing to help matters. It reminds her of someone she knows, really.

She eyes his outstretched hand for a few seconds before begrudgingly reaching out for a quick shake.]

Name's Kyoko. I take it you're not from around here.

[He seems very happy that she took him up on the handshake. At least she hadn't been so offended by his lack of manners that she refused to reciprocate his greeting! It's a step in the right direction, to be sure.]

Aha, no, um...not exactly. I'm from Theia, but...I'm...not sure if you'd know where that is, honestly. It's a fringe world, so not many people do.
